I'm here to discover and support Black-owned businesses

Discover & Support

Welcome to WABA! In a few minutes you can go from a new account to finding businesses near you, joining the community, and earning your first rewards points. Follow these steps in order, because each one builds on the last.

8 steps — see the path
  1. Create your account

On the web, sign up with an email and password or use Continue with Google. The mobile app also offers Apple sign-in on iOS. One account works on both the website and the app. If you sign up with a password, click the confirmation link WABA emails you. You can keep using the site while you wait, and a banner lets you resend the link. On mobile you can look around as a guest, but you need an account to save favorites, message people, and earn points.

  2. Complete onboarding and your profile

On mobile, onboarding walks you through choosing your interests, sharing your location so nearby businesses appear first, and turning on notifications. Web onboarding also asks for your interests and your city, state, or zip code and saves them to your profile; finish the rest of your profile under Settings. A name and photo make your reviews and posts feel more personal. Set your privacy options once: profile visibility, who can message you, and what others can see.

  3. Search the directory and the map

The directory is the heart of WABA. Search by business name, category, city, or ZIP, or combine them, as in barber 30303. Tap a category chip to filter, and use Best match or Nearest to sort. The search box shows how it read your query, and you can change that. If nothing matches, one-tap suggestions help you widen the search. The map shows the same results, colour-coded by category group.

  4. Save favorites and write reviews

Found a place you love? Save it as a favorite so it's easy to find again, then leave a review to help the next person. Reviews are among the most valuable things you can add, and each one earns you rewards points. The most helpful reviews are honest and specific: what you ordered and how it went.

  5. Shop and book with local businesses

The Shop lists products from businesses across WABA. Items with a Buy button go through secure Stripe checkout. Services and rentals priced by quote use Message to book instead: you send the business a request and they reply in Messages. You can also message any claimed business directly from its page.

  6. Join the community and live Conversations

The Community area is where members connect. Follow people, join live audio Conversations, and meet business owners in real time. In a Conversation you start as a listener. Use Raise Hand, and the host can make you a speaker. Later, the Conversation archive keeps recaps of the sessions you attended.

  7. Book an event

Browse Events for meetups, showcases, and community gatherings, or look for upcoming events on the directory map. Most events are free RSVPs, and some sell tickets through secure checkout. Your bookings are under My Event Bookings (Events → My Bookings on mobile), where you can cancel if your plans change. After an event, confirm that you attended to earn points.

  8. Earn and spend rewards

You've probably earned points already. Reviews, referrals, event attendance, and daily and weekly challenges all count. Track your balance and streak at Rewards → Points, and remember that points expire 12 months after you earn them (or after July 3, 2026 for points earned before then). Once you have at least 500 points, spend them in Redeem points on merch, gift cards, badges, and more.

Grow Your Business

WABA puts your business in front of a community that wants to support it. This path takes you from a new account to a claimed, complete listing, and then into the dashboard tools that help you sell, engage customers, and grow. The business dashboard is web-only, so do these steps in a browser.

7 steps — see the path
  1. Create your account

Sign up with an email and password, or with Google. If your business listing already shows a contact email, sign up with that same address. Self-service claims only work when your account email matches the listing's email. That email also becomes your sign-in for the business dashboard. One account can own or help manage several businesses.

  2. Claim your business

Go to /claim and search for your business. If it's listed, open the claim form, confirm your role, and enter the 10-character code emailed to you. The WABA team then reviews your claim, and approval makes you the owner. If your account email doesn't match the listing's email, use the Request a manual claim review link on the form. If your business isn't listed yet, use Apply to be listed on the same page or add it yourself. New listings are reviewed before they go live.

  3. Complete your listing

A complete listing is easier to find and more likely to be chosen. From Dashboard → My Listing, fill in your description, primary category and up to two more, logo and photo gallery, full address, social links, and hours for every day. Location matters most, because search is built around place and ZIP code. A missing city or ZIP can keep you out of nearby results. Changes reach the directory and map within moments.

  4. Engage with reviews and messages

Reviews are your public reputation. Read them, learn from them, and reply where it helps, using saved reply templates if you like. Customers can message your business directly, and you answer from Dashboard → Messages, where replies come from the business. A fast, friendly reply often turns someone browsing into a customer.

  5. Explore the dashboard

The dashboard is where you run your business on WABA. You'll find analytics on how people find your listing, your reviews and messages, events you're linked to, and team management if you add staff. Help tips on every page explain what each tool does. Spend ten minutes clicking through each section so you know what's there.

  6. Sell products, services, or rentals

Every plan, including Free, can open a storefront. Under Dashboard → Selling & payouts, set up payouts and add a product, service, or rental. Priced products can be bought through Stripe checkout and appear in the WABA Shop. Quote-based services and rentals show Message to book and don't need payouts. WABA takes a platform fee on each sale, and the fee is lower on paid plans.

  7. Choose a plan and grow

Dashboard → Plans & Billing compares the Free, Starter, Growth, and Scale plans and marks the one you're on. When you're ready for more reach, WABA also offers sponsorship placements, such as homepage banners, category sponsorships, and event sponsorships, arranged with the team at flat rates. The dashboard also has bookkeeping, connected integrations, and an AI assistant that only acts after you approve. Start with one tool and add more as each proves its worth.

Claiming & Confirming Business Ownership

Members only

Find your business in the WABA directory, show that you own or manage it, and unlock your business dashboard after approval.

If your business is already listed in the WABA directory, claiming it puts you in the driver's seat. After WABA confirms your ownership or authorization to manage the listing, your account receives access to the business dashboard — your listing editor, reviews, customer messages, bookkeeping, inventory, selling, analytics, and more. That confirmation determines who may manage the listing; it is not a quality endorsement or Black ownership certification. Claiming takes a few minutes: find your listing, tell us who you are, and confirm a code we email you.

Your Dashboard: Studio, Setup & Stations

Members only

Tour Studio, the home page of your business dashboard — the sidebar, the Finish setup checklist, Needs you, This week, and the Stations you can add, resize, and reorder.

Studio is the home page of your dashboard and your business command center: Needs you (the work waiting on you), a one line Finish setup summary while you're new, This week , and a grid of Stations — reviews, your directory listing, integrations, Tasks, insights, and more — that you can add, hide, resize, and drag into the order that matches how you work. The sidebar groups everything else by the job it does: Customers , Marketing , Money , Stock , and People .

Accounts, Roles & What Owners Get

Members only

How business accounts work: sign up as a business or claim an existing listing, then share access with Owner, Manager, and Staff roles.

Every WABA account can discover businesses, earn rewards, join Conversations, and attend events. Business owners get the business dashboard on top of that — listing editor, reviews, customer messages, bookkeeping, inventory, selling, analytics, and connected apps — on the same account. You become a business owner by signing up as a business and listing it, or by claiming a listing that's already in the directory.

Getting Started

Plans & Billing

Members only

Compare the Free, Starter, Growth, and Scale plans, upgrade with Stripe Checkout, and manage your subscription.

WABA plans apply per business listing. Free costs $0, Starter $29/month, Growth $79/month, and Scale $199/month. Every plan can list in the directory, upload a photo gallery, join the community, and sell on WABA; higher plans add listing prominence, deeper analytics, priority search placement, event promotions, a lower platform fee on sales, and bigger assistant budgets. Plans & Billing (in Settings ) shows your current plan and a full comparison table.

Getting Started

Managing Your Business Listing

Members only

Keep your directory listing sharp — name, categories, photos, location, contact details, social links, service area, and hours — with a live preview.

Your WABA directory listing is what members see when they search for Black owned businesses near them: your name, categories, description, photos, hours, contact details, and location on the map. A complete listing ranks better in search and answers the two questions every customer has — "is this what I'm looking for?" and "are they open right now?" The editor shows a live preview of how your listing looks as you type.
