Ujima: Your Community Guide
Ask the built-in AI assistant to find businesses, events, and news — in plain language, wherever you are in the app.
What Ujima can do
Ujima is a chat assistant that knows the platform. Ask it in plain language to:
- Find businesses — "Find Black-owned restaurants near me" or "Recommend a beauty & wellness business in Atlanta"
- Pull business details — hours, contact info, what a specific business offers
- Surface events — "What community events are happening this weekend?"
- Catch you up on news — the latest community stories and articles
- Check your rewards — your points and progress, when you're signed in
It answers with real listings and links you can tap into, not just text.
Where to find it
Web: Tap the round chat button floating in the bottom corner of most pages ("Open Ujima"). If you manage a business on WABA, the same button opens Ujima with your business context.
Mobile: Tap the Ujima icon at the top right of the app header, next to the notifications bell. The panel has two tabs — Ujima and Direct Messages — plus chat history and a new-conversation button.
Signed in, your conversations are saved to your account and sync between web and mobile.
Getting good answers
- Open the assistant and try one of the suggested starter prompts, or type your own.
- Be specific about what and where: "vegan restaurants in Houston" beats "food".
- Allow location access (optional) and "near me" questions get local answers automatically.
- Follow up naturally — it remembers the conversation, so "which ones are open Sundays?" works after a search.
Web: Type / in the message box for shortcut commands such as /find, /nearby, /events, /news, /guides, /go, and /help.
Limits to know
- Ujima sticks to its lane: businesses, events, news, stories, and the platform itself. Ask it to write your homework and it will politely steer you back to community topics.
- Signed-in members can send about 20 messages per minute. Guests get 5 per minute and 30 per day — after that, sign in to keep going.
- Ujima can make mistakes. Verify important details — hours, prices, addresses — with the business directly.
