Writing Reviews

Share your experience with a business — how star ratings work, what happens after you post, and the rules to know first.

Why reviews matter

Reviews are how the community lifts up great Black-owned businesses. Your honest experience helps neighbors choose with confidence and gives owners feedback they can act on. Approved reviews also earn you rewards points.

Requires: You must be signed in to write a review.

How to write one

  1. Open the business page and find Customer Reviews (web) or Reviews (mobile).
  2. Tap or click Write a Review (if nobody has reviewed the business yet, the web button says Write the First Review).
  3. Pick a star rating from 1 to 5 — the labels run from "Poor" through "Fair", "Good", and "Very Good" to "Excellent".
  4. Optionally add a title (up to 100 characters) summarizing your experience.
  5. Write your review — at least 10 characters, and up to 1,000 on the web or 2,000 in the mobile app.
  6. Submit. On the web you'll see "Review submitted successfully!"; in the app, "Your review has been submitted!".

The rules

  • One review per business. If you've already reviewed a business, you'll see "You have already reviewed this business".
  • No reviewing your own business. Owners can reply to reviews instead.
  • Keep it civil. Reviews pass through a content check. Content that breaks the Community Guidelines is rejected outright; borderline content is held for moderation, and you'll get a "Review Awaiting Moderation" notification. A held review doesn't count toward ratings or rewards until it's approved.
  • Photos aren't supported in reviews right now — words only.

Interacting with other reviews

Web: Under each review you can vote Helpful or Not Helpful and Reply (5 to 500 characters, then Post Reply). Replies appear under the review, and the owner's are labeled "(Business Owner)". You need to be signed in, and you can't vote on your own review.

Mobile: Tap Helpful on reviews you found useful — one vote per review. Replies and sorting are on the web.

When a business owner responds to your review, you get a notification.
