Exploring the Map & Globe
Discover businesses visually on the interactive globe — filter by category and status, search near you, and switch between light and dark maps.
What the map shows
The map plots Black-owned businesses across the United States so you can explore visually instead of typing searches. Nearby businesses group together as you zoom out, and you can shade states by how many businesses they have.
Web: The globe lives front-and-center on the home page.
Mobile: The Home tab opens straight onto a full-screen map.
Getting around on the web
On a computer, the globe next to the home-page headline is live: drag to spin it and use the small controls in its corner to Zoom in, Zoom out, Reset view, or Explore fullscreen. On a phone or small window, tap Explore the map to load it — until then the map is a still backdrop.
Scroll-to-zoom only works in fullscreen, so the page scrolls normally until you choose to dive in. In fullscreen, a control panel gives you the full toolset:
- Light map / Dark map, and a Streets or Minimal base map.
- Globe view or 2D view. With Streets on, a 3D view button tilts the camera.
- Categories — colour-dot chips for eight groups plus Other, such as Food & Drink, Beauty & Personal Care, and Health & Wellness. Tap a chip again to clear it.
- Filters — Management confirmed, Featured only, and This month (businesses new or updated this month).
- Near me — show businesses within 1, 5, 10, 25, or 50 miles of you.
- Find a business by name, city, or category, or pick a State.
- Map layers — businesses, events (today, this week, or this month), a density heatmap, and state totals.
- Tour cities takes you on an automatic tour; Copy map link shares exactly what you're looking at.
Note: On a phone, the fullscreen panel collapses to a bar — tap to expand or collapse the map controls.
Getting around on mobile
- Open the Home tab — the map fills the screen. The category chips along the top filter by group.
- Tap the expand button to go fullscreen. From there you can pinch to zoom, tap clusters to see the businesses inside, and tap markers for details.
- In fullscreen, search businesses or cities, and filter to All, Management confirmed, or Featured businesses. A legend explains the category colours.
- Use the map controls to switch between light and dark styles, center on your location, show the density heatmap, view the entire US, or switch to a 3D map (3D buildings appear when you zoom in close).
Mobile: The search bar at the top of the Home tab opens the app's global search, and the shopping-bag button opens the Shop.
From map to business
Tapping or clicking a business marker shows a preview card. On the web it includes the category and location, whether the business is new or updated this month, whether its map location is exact, directions in Apple or Google Maps, Call, Website, and View in the directory. When several businesses share a spot, you'll be asked to choose one. Zoomed-out clusters show a count; tap one to zoom in.
